The Castlemaine Highland Pipe Band is a social band that regularly plays a range of local events. We have been in the community since 1953 and are known for wearing traditional uniform, including feather bonnets, horse hair sporrans, woolen kilts and plaids. Castlemaine Croquet Club is situated at 21 – 27 Berkeley St and is part of the Bowls Club precinct. Croquet is played on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings at 10am in winter and 9am during daylight savings. Association Croquet is played on Wednesday at 10am and Saturday at 1pm. U3A Castlemaine was formed in May 1988 and in June of that year the first Committee was elected. Membership is open to anyone residing in the Mount Alexander Shire who is retired or semi-retired. The purpose of the organisation is to provide an opportunity to share knowledge of members through classes and other learning activities.

The Friends work with Parks Victoria to care for Kalimna Park, a 187 hectare bush reserve on the north east boundary of Castlemaine.
